Five Million Is A Good Number
In today's fast paced society, it is important to make sure that any contractors who set foot on
your property have adequate insurance coverage. Why? Because bad things can, and sometimes
do, happen. Insurance protects not only the contractor performing the work, but the homeowner
as well. Your contractors should have both general liability and workers' compensation insurance.
Workers' compensation insurance provides coverage in the event an employee is hurt on the job.
Without it, you are potentially liable if an employee is injured while working at your home.
Several years ago, one of our competitors caused a major oil spill on a customer's property.
The cleanup costs were approximately $15,000. The problem was that the oil company didn't have
any insurance and the homeowner was stuck paying for the cleanup himself. Shortly thereafter, he
became our customer.
Hart & Iliff carries $5 million of general liability and workers' compensation coverage. Most of
our competitors carry only $1 million. All of this insurance is there to protect you, our valued
customer, in the event that there is ever a problem. The reason we can afford to carry $5 million of
coverage is because we have so few problems. Isn't it nice to know the coverage is there anyway,
just in case?
